The 4WD Toyota Owner Magazine FJ Cruiser Racer
4WD Toyota Owner has acquired an FJ Cruiser and we are building this versatile rig to do serious double duty. In June 2007, 4WDTO will race this FJC in the SCORE Baja 500. Then, assuming we haven't rolled the truck to oblivion, less than two weeks later we will be driving it on the Rubicon Trail from start to finish!
Our goal is to show that the Toyota FJ Cruiser can be a master of both worlds: high speed and yet keep its established 4WD roots. Follow along as we build up a true bolt-on rig that the average 4WD enthusiast will be able to replicate. No more $20,000 axles. No more shredding the floorboards to install three-foot long shocks that cost $3000 each. This FJ Cruiser will have an internal cage, yes, but it will be designed to still be a daily driver! We will drive this truck to the race and to the Rubicon--and back!

The contender: a Voodoo Blue FJ Cruiser with 6-MT and FJammer system
Drivers: Cain Smead and Scott Brady
Co-driver: Mike Baker
The still evolving parts list:
Suspension: Full Sway-A-Way/Race Runner 2.5 front and rear. Front consists of a main 2.5 (8" travel) coilover with a secondary bypass shock with full rebound and compression adjustments. Both have remote oil reservoirs. www.swayaway.com

Front UCA: Total Chaos 13” travel kit. This kit successfully conquered the Por Las Pampas race in South America (6000km) and we are stoked to be using TOTAL CHAOS components on our FJ Cruiser. We will be widening the rear end; stay tuned for that later. www.chaosfab.com

Front axles: Total Chaos custom extended, heat-treated 4340 axles so we can keep 4WD capability. Many vehicles go 2WD in Baja but give us 4WD for the silt beds and, of course, later use on the Rubicon, Moab, and TTORA Takeover! Strength? Check!
